The Ephemera collection on Chinese science, technology, law, and society (中国科技法律社会汇集) contains over 800 items published in China, dating from circa 1906 to 2010, with its bulk dating from 1931 to 1981. Materials include pamphlets, handbooks, picture books, posters, lantern slides, literacy flash cards, etc. The subject areas of the materials include science, technology, agriculture, personal hygiene, economy, culture, law, society, and politics, etc. The collection also includes works that reflected social, political, industrial transformation in China.

Incoming correspondence of Smith, containing letters from professional colleagues, university administrators, diplomats, and European acquaintances concerning international affairs, with emphasis on Germany and her role in World War I. References to Germany and the war are in the form of comments about Smith's publications during the period 1913-1919. Of particular importance are two letters from the Paris Peace Conference by James t. Shotwell and Robert Lansing. Other letters of interest are those from Frank Johnson Goodnow while he was in Peking, 1914; from Frederic William Maitland, relating to Cuba, 1889, 1902; from Alfred Nerincx relating to Belgium; from J.V. Sedmik describing political conditions om Czechoslovakia, 1924; from Theodore Roosevelt, 1915-1916, commenting on Smith's pamphlet MILITARY STRATEGY AND DIPLOMACY; and from John William Burgess, most of which were written while he was in Germany, 1905, 1906, 1907.

The collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, notes, photographs, subject files, and printed materials. Correspondents include Victor Chernov and George Kennan. Extensive notes by Mosely concern European diplomacy in the 1830s and the South Slavic Zadruga. There are thousands of photographs, chiefly from the Soviet Union ca. 1945-1955. Besides photographs of Soviet, Chinese, and East European political figures, such as Mao Tse-Tung, György Lukʹacs, and Boris Spasskiĭ, there are photographs of such Western figures as Enrico Berlinguer and Pablo Neruda. Subject files and mimeographed and printed materials include files on the Inter-University Committee on Travel Grants; papers on Soviet Studies distributed by St. Antony College, Oxford University; State Department research reports, and works by Mosely.
