The manuscripts include three boxes of lecture notes on American history in English and German; abstracts and related material of his lecture tour in England, 1922; typescript instructions for his HISTORICAL ATLAS, including maps, related correspondence, and documents; notes, bibliographies, essays, photographs, and related materials on Latin America; a scrapbook of clippings on the Williamstown Institute, 1927; his English literature notebook while an undergraduate at Columbia College, 1893; two boxes and a scrapbook of travel photographs and lantern slides of views from around the world; Shepherd family items include a hand-drawn, hand-colored coat of arms and a letter book of his father, William Shepherd, dated 1867-1871; and Iona Shepherd's 1905 autograph book.

The correspondence is extensive and includes letter from Jacques Maritain; Thomas Merton; Maxwell Geismar; Eldridge Cleaver; Robert Casadeus; Abraham Rattner; P.D. East; Joseph Noonan; Sarah Patton Boyle; Lillian Smith; Father August Thompson; Nell Dorr; and Brother Patrick Hart. All of his major works are represented in manuscript form (usually typescript, carbon). In addition there are many original photographs by Griffin, which he pasted throughout his extensive journal, 1950-1980. This journal is a remarkable account of his life and thoughts, extending to over 3,000 pages.

The papers of the Bonsall Family of Pennsylvania primarily consist of correspondence, personal and professional documents, journals, genealogical tables, photographs, and a family Bible. The majority of the letters, documents, and journals were generated by or for Edward H. Bonsall (1794-1879) and the members of his immediate family, particularly his eldest son, Spencer Bonsall (1816-1888). Also included are documents produced by or for other Bonsall family members, from Richard Bonsall who settled in Philadelphia with William Penn (ca. 1683) to Eleanor Crosby Martin Bonsall (1894-?), the daughter of William Martin Bonsall and granddaughter of Spencer Bonsall.
