Professor O'Brien's files cover a broad range of French culture including correspondence with other French scholars, educational organizations, editors, publishers (notably Blanche W. Knopf), with members of the OSS in wartime France, and with other literary figures such as Gilbert Highet, Dwight Macdonald, and Klaus Mann.

The collection is a comprehensive documentation of the dramatist's career and includes manuscripts, typescripts, notes, and costume and scenic design for more than seventy of his plays and related writings; 31 diaries, commonplace books, and scrapbooks containing manuscript and typescript notes, travel sketches, original drawings, and photographs; and correspondence files including letters from Harley Granville-Barker, Sir Herbert Beerbohm-Tree, John Galsworthy, Booth Tarkington, and Thornton Wilder. Austin Strong's mother, Isobel Field, was the step-daughter of Robert Louis Stevenson. Consequently, the collection contains much Stevensoniana, including photographs and Isobel Field's letters from Western Samoa, where she was known as "Teuila." Also, correspondence and photographs relating to Cornwall Park, Auckland, New Zealand, which was designed by Austin Strong.

Also, four boxes of printed and manuscript material collected by George S. Hellman while writing BENJAMIN N. The manuscripts include typescripts of Sykes' published and unpublished novels, monographs, plays, short stories, and articles. Among these are The Perennial Avant Garde, The Cool Millennium, and The Hidden Remnant. Sykes' notes and notebooks span the period from the early 1930s to 1980, and include preliminary ideas and sketches for his books, as well as autobiographical material. A small number of documents concern Sykes' wartime work in the U.S. Government Office of War Information. Course-related material including writings and correspondence of students taught by Sykes between 1962 and 1975 at the New School and as an adjunct professor at Columbia University. Printed materials consist of numerous reviews of Sykes' books, in addition to offprints and articles by Sykes. Included as well are printed materials about or connected with Sykes, offprints of articles inscribed to him, and many volumes from his library. The substantial correspondence series includes personal letters and correspondence with agents and publishers relating to his books. Correspondents include Harold Clurman, Aaron Copland, Lawrence Durrell, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Francis Steegmuller, as well as a number of Sykes' students. There is extensive correspondence between Sykes and the artist John Hartell from 1927 to 1983.

Papers of McCrea containing manuscripts of his addresses and essays on classical themes and on specific Latin authors including Cicero, Horace, and Lucretius. There is an unpublished book manuscript in various stages of completition entitled "Cicero as Philosopher." Letters to McCrea from Nicholas Murray Butler, Gonzalez Lodge, Frank A. Patterson, and Ernest G. Sihler, dealing with university and academic matters. In addition to some family documents and photographs of McCrea, there are twelve folders of essays and themes written for Columbia College classes by a relative, Robert Glenn McCrea, who received his A.B. degree in 1896. Also a group of term papers submitted to McCrea, a grade book for Latin courses, and exam questions prepared by McCrea for M.A. and Ph.D. candidates.

Original art for other works includes "Aria," "Aquarius," "Socially Awkaward Funnies," "Soul Deleter," and "Triage." The collection also includes instructions for role-playing games created by Reed, dream journals, poetry, and other written material. The material sheds light on Reed's own work as well as on what it means to be trans in the South.
