The collection consists primarily of New York State Urban Development Corporation (UDC) reports and proposals. The bulk of the material dates from 1967 to 1974, however, there is some material that pre and postdates this period. The collection also contains some reports created by entities outside the UDC such as the New York City Planning Committee and various other NYC urban development community programs. The collection is arranged chronologically.

This collection includes correspondence, printed materials, financial records, meeting minutes, reports, legal records, architectural drawings, site plans, and photographs created and collected by the Lincoln Square Community Council between circa 1953 and 1981. Records also relate to the local application of local, state, and national legislations for urban development, such as fair housing, slum clearance, and urban renewal programs.

Correspondence, minutes, memoranda, reports, project proposals, financial records, and related printed materials documenting various social services focused on community development, the elimination of poverty, and the prevention and control of juvenile deliquency. Among its programs are manpower and training services such as the Neighborhood Youth Corps, a remedial education and work program, and the New Careers Program, providing both instruction and on the job training; individual, group, and family services such as counseling and supportive services for jovenile delinquents; and mental health services. The correspondence is with city, state, and federal agencies as well as private social service organizations. Correspondents include John V. Lindsay. Also, files for Bertram M. Beck, Executive Director, the Board of Directors, the various committees, and project funding activities.

Joan McClure (1914-2005) was a resident of the West Village in New York City for more than sixty years and active in many local civic and social issues. She was closely involved in the planning for the Westway highway along the Hudson River, the creation of a landscaped traffic island at Abbingdon Square, and the founding of the Village Halloween Parade.

United Bronx Parents (UBP) was founded in 1965 as a grassroots organization of parents and local businesses advocating for improved education for children in South Bronx public schools. In 1984, under executive director Lorraine Montenegro, the organization shifted focus to address other issues facing Bronx residents, including homelessness, substance abuse, and HIV/AIDS. The United Bronx Parents, Inc. Records document the organization's work for social services in the Puerto Rican community of the South Bronx from the 1960s to the 2010s.
