The correspondents include Ivan and Vera Bunin, Mark Slonim and Petr Struve. Also included are photocopies of letters by Ivan A. Goncharov. By far the largest part of the collection is in the form of memoirs written by Valeriĭ P. Semenov-Ti︠a︡nʹ-Shanskiĭ, in which he dwells in detail on his ancestors, on the social and political life in Russian during the second half of the 19th century and on his public life in the emigration. The subject files deal primarily with Russian emigre organizations in Finland.

Of particular interest are the files of the Cultura Popular Hispana-Gala de la Hispanidad, October 20, 1984, which included a competition for original manuscripts and musical scores for both religious and secular poetry.

This collection is related to oral history interviews conducted with Coleman and other members of the Guardians. We intend to acquire other collections from group members which will together create a linked collection telling a comprehensive history of this significant organization.

The records include: annual reports, board minutes and correspondence, headworker correspondence, financial records, fundraising information, and photographs.
