Included are Cerf's personal correspondence files, 1929-1945, and the diaries and scrapbooks which he maintained from his school days throughout his active career. The diaries, in date-book format, contain terse notes on Cerf's meetings with authors and friends, on his travels and publishing activities; the scrapbooks contain correspondence and photographs, as well as memorabilia and printed items, and were annotated by Cerf and his wife, Phyllis Fraser Cerf Wagner. Also in the collection are manuscripts and proofs for Cerf's books including "The Laugh's on Me""Treasury of Atrocious Puns""The Sound of Laughter""Stories to Make You Feel Better", and "At Random: the Reminiscences of Bennett Cerf", which was edited by Phyllis Cerf Wagner and Albert Erskine, 1977. The papers also include condolence letters written at the time of Cerf's death, photographs and photo albums,certificates and awards, and miscellaneous printed material, including Random House and Modern Library catalogues. The files contain much material of the League of Women Voters of New York State as well, and some material pertaining to the national organization. The files document the League's activities in the areas of voter registration, election reform, New York City government, foreign policy, ecology, and numerous other concerns, and contain the records of city, state, and national conventions, annual reports, and Board and Council minutes. Major correspondents include Emanuel Teller, Stanley M. Isaacs, Jacob K. Javits, Robert F. Kennedy, Edward I. Koch, John Vliet Lindsay, Nelson A. Rockefeller, Anna Lord Strauss, and Percy E. Sutton.

Personal, administrative, political, and investigative files of Nickerson. The papers deal almost entirely with his eight years as County Executive, and consist of correspondence, memoranda, manuscripts of speeches, notes, press releases, photographs, and clippings. Among the major correspondents are James A. Farley, Hubert H. Humphrey, Robert F. Kennedy, Edward I. Koch, and Percy E. Sutton. The Investigation Files, which amount to nearly half the collection, document investigation into corruption and mismanagement in numerous Long Island businesses and governmental departments. These investigations, instigated and overseen by Nickerson, were carried out largely by the Commissioner of Accounts, Milton Lipson, and later by Samuel Greason, the first governmental ombudsman in the United States. These files consist primarily of memoranda, transcripts of hearings, payroll and financial accounts, notes, and tape recordings.

Personal correspondence, speeches, subject files, photographs, and printed and miscellaneous material of Hogan. The correspondence, speeches, and other material relate primarily to his activities as District Attorney, and to his unsuccessful campaign for the U.S. Senate, 1958. The papers also reflect Hogan's deep concern for Columbia University, as a Trustee and a member of numerous alumni committees. Among the major correspondents are Harry J. Carman, Dwight David Eisenhower, Robert F. Kennedy, Arthur Hays Sulzburger, and Herbert Bayard Swope.

Congressional papers consisting of correspondence memoranda, speeches, reports, photographs and printed materials relating to her terms in Congress. The collection contains general correspondence and administrative files, as well as extensive subject files on a wide variety of topics with which Abzug was involved while in Congress. Also included are Legislative files, being the chronological files of background material for legislation considered on the House floor, and printed versions of legislation by Abzug and others. The Casework Files, relating to Abzug's advocacy on behalf of constituents involved in civil rights, housing, military, employment and related cases, are closed. Among the major correspondents are Carl Albert, Abraham D. Beame, Hugh L. Carey, Gerald R. Ford, Edward I. Koch, John V. Lindsay, Nelson A. Rockefeller, and Gloria Steinem. Materials added in 1981 include: draft transcripts of an oral history, appointment books, speeches and subject files (particularly on privacy and freedom of information) all interfiled in the collection and campaign materials press releases and newspaper clippings.

The general files, minutes, and reports reflect the varied activities and interests of the League, including apportionment, court reform, education, and voting rights. The historical files contain photographs, printed materials, and memorabilia, filed chronologically. Also included are the periodicals and publications of the League, scrapbooks arranged chronologically, and "Mailbooks", or volumes of mimeographed reports and announcements which were sent to branches and board members. The files document Young's leadership in many social welfare and civil rights organizations, as well as his activities as a columnist and speaker. Cataloged correspondents include Robert F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Hubert H. Humphrey, Martin Luther King, Jr., Coretta Scott King, Roy Wilkins, and John W. Gardner.

Records of the Citizens Committee for the Protection of the Environment (CCPE) include correspondence, memoranda, reports, statements, notes, news releases, U.S. Atomic Energy/Nuclear Regulatory Commission hearing records, and printed material. The correspondence contains letters from supporters, members of other environmental groups, New York State legislators, U.S. senators and congressmen, scientists, and CCPE's attorney for the Indian Point hearings. Chief correspondents of the group are Larry Bogart, Executive Director, Dr. George Candreva, President, and Irene P. Dickinson (Mrs. Leon A.), Executive Secretary and Coordinator, whose file these are. There are numerous letters from Congressmen John G. Dow, Richard Ottinger, and Peter Peyser. The cataloged correspondence contains three letters from Senator Jacob K. Javits, and one each from Senator Edmund S. Muskie, Senator Margaret Chase Smith, and Louis J. Lefkowitz, New York State Attorney General.
