The incomplete records of the New York State Library School, Albany, 1890-1911. Included are diploma lists, grade sheets, examination questions, examination questions with corresponding set of students' answers, pass cards, senior certificate lists, an admissions application, entrance examinations, curriculum materials, and some documents for the class of 1890. Also, records of the New York State Library School Association, Incorporated. In addition to letters from such prominent American librarians as Katharine L. Sharp, Joseph Wheeler, Ralph Munn, and James I. Wyer, there are minutes, reports, memoranda, and printed documents, including the Association's constitution. There is a scrapbook of blanks and forms used in the executive departments of U.S. libraries in 1893, mounted by the N.Y. State Library School for the American Library Association World's Columbian Exposition Comparative Library Exhibit (Chicago, 1893). Also, files of the school consisting of course materials, exams, publications of the School, student records, admission files, class lists and rankings, and some related correspondence.

This collection represents the alumni directory and register holdings at the University Archives. This finding aid was created to facilitate access to the most requested volumes. There are also links for those volumes available online. For the most part, Alumni Directories include information about alumni living and who have shared contact information for publication. Alumni Registers list former students, including those who are no longer living. Professional correspondence, notes, clippings, pamphlets, photographs, publications, and related printed materials of Reece. Although the collection spans Reece's career, the early years are sparsely documented. Half of the collection deals with his monograph and periodical publications, including book reviews of them. There are letters from prominent American librarians, with numerous letters from Robert B. Downs and Jack Dalton. Many of these are letters congratulating him on being the first recipient of the Melvil Dewey Professorhip at Columbia and upon his retirement. Also, many handwritten drafts of his letters.

The New York Technical Services Librarians (NYTSL) records include correspondence, minutes, memoranda, reports, questionnaires, programs, financial records, membership records, typescript copies of papers presented at meetings, and related printed materials. Several topics of note are the 1926 meeting to honor Margaret Mann; the 1926 cooperative cataloging issue; and the 1946 American Library Association constitution matter.

Correspondence, reports, and related materials of the American Library Association Board of Education for Librarianship from 1945 to 1954. The collection consists of carbon copies of letters from the files of two Board members: Richard H. Logsdon and Francis R. St. John. The correspondence is chiefly between Anita N. Hostetter, Secretary of the Board, and other Board members. These records concern library school programs, curricula, course outlines, examinations, accreditation, and related matters.

The Corporation awards grants to nonprofit organizations and institutions for projects that are broadly educational in nature and that show promise of having national or international impact. Certain appropriations are made for activities, such as Corporation-led initiatives that are administered by the foundation's officers. The trustees set the overall policies of the foundation and have final authority to approve all grants above $50,000 recommended by the program staff. Grants of $25,000 or less, called discretionary grants, are made upon the approval of the president and are reported to the board; larger discretionary grants, those between $25,000 and $50,000, are also reviewed by a Corporation-wide group, which makes recommendations to the president. Correspondence, manuscripts, and subject files on most aspects of Pegram's career. Also, a large quantity of research notes made by Lucy J. Hayner (1898-1971), Professor Emeritus of Physics at Columbia University, who was writing a history of Columbia's Physics Dept., 1905-1954, can be found in folders throughout the collection.

These files have been compiled by the Rare Book and Manuscript Library from its origin in 1930 through the present day. The material derives largely from gifts, and the occasional purchase; much of the subject file in particular is made of ephemera included in the American Type Founders, Co. Library, purchased in 1942. Prospectuses and information sent by fine presses and book artists are added to the relevant files in an ongoing fashion. The files cover subjects from the beginning of printing to the current day.
