Some of these materials were used in the preparation of his book THE MEXICAN AGRARIAN REVOLUTION. Also, personal letters and files relating to the Farm Security Program, and specifically the Bankhead Bill and the Farm Tenant Bill, 1937, 1934-1937.

The material derives largely from gifts, and the occasional purchase; much of the subject file in particular is made of ephemera included in the American Type Founders, Co. Library, purchased in 1942. Prospectuses and information sent by fine presses and book artists are added to the relevant files in an ongoing fashion. The files cover subjects from the beginning of printing to the current day.

This work was issued by the Council for Research in the Social Sciences of Columbia University as volume one of its series Mexico in International Finance and Diplomacy. His collaborators included Georgia L. Baxter, Frederick Sherwood Dunn, Parker Thomas Moon, and G. Butler Sherwell.
Robert Hiester Montgomery papers, 1600-1945
13 boxesLetters and documents, the majority written between 1700 and 1900, dealing with both personal and corporate business and financial matters, assembled by Montgomery. The letters are chiefly by American and English writers. Many of the American letters are to and from various United States Treasury officials, usually the Secretary of the Treasury. Of the 107 letters by Joseph Anderson (1757-1835), U.S. Senator and jurist, the majority are written to Samuel Swartwout (1783-1856) when he was Comptroller of the United States and Collector of the Port of New York. Most of the documents are American with New York City firms predominating.
