[Office building and factory for Mr. A. Trenkmann New York City] / DeLemos & Cordes, Architects, 1890-1895
3 itemsAugust Trenkmann purchased the lots located between Centre, Broome and Lafayette Streets (originally Elm Street) in New York City at different times during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Trenkmann constructed buildings on five of the seven lots. This small collection represents two of those buildings, both designed by DeLemos & Cordes, Architects. For the 7-story factory building at Nos. 247-249 Centre Street and 167-171 Elm Street, the collection consists of Specifications of the Iron Work and Materials (1890). For the 7-story office building on the southwest corner of Broome and Centre Streets (403 Broome Street), the collection includes Specification for the Steam Power, Heating and Ventilating Apparatus and Article of Agreement between Trenkmann and Jackson Architectural Iron Works (1895).

Group of 190 condolence letters, and 40 telegrams, and a quality of signed and unsigned calling cards, all in two large albums, all sent to Nicoll on the death of his son.

There are also many documents including Dr. Watts' appointment as an army surgeon July 6, 1812 signed by President Madison. Included amongst the documents are announcements of faculty teas, meetings of the trustees, faculty letters, and a catalogue of the officers and students of Columbia College, 1867-1868.

Clarence H. Vance papers, 1913-1960
13 boxesCorrespondence, mansucripts, transcripts, documents, photographs, and printed materials assembled by Vance for his dissertation, a biography of Myles Cooper (1737-1785), clergyman, Loyalist, and second president of King's College (now, Columbia University) from 1763 until 1775. There are transcripts of very many letters and manuscripts by and about Myles Cooper and King's College along with pertinent photographs and printed materials which Vance collected from American, English, and Scottish sources. There are also materials about Samuel Seabury (1729-1796) and Isaac Sears (1730-1786) whose biographical entries Vance wrote for the DICTIONARY OF AMERICAN BIOGRPAHY. Among the correspondents are Gertrude Atherton, Nicholas Murray Butler, Marcus Benjamin, Dixon Ryan Fox, and Dumas Malone.
