The papers include a long letter by Anna Staniewska discussing Maciej Słomczyński's Polish translations of Shakespeare, with related correspondence of Czesław Miłosz. There is correspondence, and a manuscript by Valkenier concerning the 1961 publication in the Polish emigre press of Russian underground authors I. Ivanov and Abram Tertz. The extensive subject files are primarily concerned with 20th century Polish history, historiography and the Solidarity movement. There is a section on the 1959 U.S. Exhibit in Moscow and a number of Polish theatrical posters. Most of the books are in Polish and concern Polish history and historiography.

Lecture notes and bibliographical lists of Thorndike, covering the courses he taught at Western Reserve, Northwestern, and Columbia Universities. These include material on Shakespeare, Victorian Literature, Romantic Literature, Elizabethan Theater, and the Classical Period of English Literature. Also, an extended series of lectures entitled "Lecture Notes on English Literature.".

Notes and related materials of Trilling for his biography of Charles Dudley Warner. Included are numerous photostats and typescript copies of Warner's incoming and outgoing correspondence. Also, some miscellaneous notes relating to Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Mark Twain.

Correspondence, manuscripts, and miscellany relating to the presentation of poems at a Shakespeare's Birthday Concert on 23 April 1972, by a number of British poets including W.H. Auden, C. Day Lewis, Robert Graves, and Stephen Spender. The collection consists primarily of correspondence with the poets involved; several manuscripts of poems both presented at and eliminated from the program; some business correspondence of the Globe Playhouse Trust and Calder and Boyars, Ltd., Publishers; and Hampton's notes.

138 original scenic, costume, and prop designs, executed variously in watercolor, gouache, pastel, ink, colored pencil, and graphite pencil for the Stratford Shakespearean Festival or Canada, as well as some related items. Some of the designs have attached fabric swatches. The bulk of the work is designs for Shakespearean plays, but there are also designs for other works such as "The Man of La Mancha" and Gogol's "The Government Inspector.".

Theatrical memorabilia such as programs, playbills, photographs, engravings, and prints. Although there are some playbills as early as 1770, most of the material is from the 19th and 20th centuries. In addition to plays there is some material relating to concerts, operettas, musical comedies, musical revues, and movies. The majority of the collection centers around Shakespeare. Included with an unbound copy of each play (The Edinburgh Shakespeare Folio Edition) there are portraits, engravings, and photographs of actors in their roles; playbills; programs; cast lists; other types of illustrative material; reviews of various productions; and other printed material. Such well known names as George Arliss, Sarah Bernhardt, the Booths, John Drew, the Barrymores, and William Gillette are included in this collection.
