This collection of papers thoroughly documents most aspects of the life and work of Boris Sapir, particularly his activities as a Menshevik leader and writer in the Russian emigration, and as an historian of Russian populism and socialism. Materials on his work as a Menshevik include correspondence with his colleagues, significant files on the "Foreign Delegation" in Germany in the 1920s-30s, and on its "New York Center" in the 1940s-50s, an extensive collection of photographs of his fellow Mensheviks, and files and manuscripts relating to the Inter-University Project on the History of Menshevism from the 1960's. Concerning Sapir's career as an historian and archivist, there is material he used for his many publications in the field, correspondence with scholars and students (mostly asking his guidance, or thanking him for it), and some of his own manuscripts. There is a great deal of material on his personal life as well, in particular in his correspondence, in files on his biography, bibliography, and posthumous "rehabilitation, " and in his manuscript and photograph collections. Less well documented are his two decades of work with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. Besides the importance of the papers generated by Sapir himself, this collection is an excellent source for work on the Mensheviks because he was entrusted by his friends and colleagues with their own papers. These materials help to document the history of Menshevism particularly from the still hopeful years of the "Foreign Delegation" in Germany in the 1920s, to the last years of the "New York Center, " including its internal disputes in the 1950s, soon followed by the deaths of those Mensheviks who had survived the many years of wars and persecutions. Some of the materials go back to the pre-revolutionary era, through memoirs on the early years of Russian Marxism (1890s-1917). The entire collection consists of approximately 24, 000 items, spanning 1898-1992. Most of it consists of Sapir's own papers.

The John N. Hazard papers consist of a processed set of 11 boxes, numbered 1-11, and an unprocessed set of 46 boxes, numbered 1-46.

Correspondence, manuscripts, documents, and photographs of Bakunina. Most of the collection consists of letters from the period 1945-1974 by Bakunina's friends and relatives. Cataloged correspondence is from George Vernadsky (Bakunina's cousin), Vadim Rudnev, Sofii︠a︡ Panina, Petr Bit︠s︡illi, and Nikolaĭ Astrov; some of the letters are addressed to Bakunina's husband, Mikhail A. (d. 1962). Manuscripts include brief memoirs by Bakunina and her husband.

The papers consist of correspondence, manuscripts, notes, documents, photographs, subject files, and printed materials. Among the correspondents are Louis Marin, Mikhail Osorgin, Alekseĭ Remizov, Boris Ubegaun, George Vernadsky, and the "Eurasianists" Petr Savitskiĭ and Petr Suvchinskiĭ; there is one letter from Nikolaĭ Marr. There is the manuscript of Nikitin's memoirs, "Arabeski: pochemu i︠a︡ stal vostochnikom?" There are extensive notes of lectures by Nikolaĭ Berdi︠a︡ev in 1925. Numerous photographs date from Nikitin's service in Iran. Subject files concern the Eurasian movement (evraziĭstvo), and the Committee "For Return to the Homeland" ("Za Vozvrashchenie na Rodinu"). Printed materials largely consist of Nikitin's own writings.

There are many letters from Anton Kartashev; other correspondents include Mikhaĭl Karpovich, Philip Mosely, and Vasiliĭ Zenḱovskiĭ. There are manuscripts by Kartashev, Karpovich, and George Vernadsky, as well as by Novit︠s︡kiĭ himself on the Orthodox Church and the emigration. Subject files touch on his organizational activities. There are photographs of Novit︠s︡kiĭ with Dwight Eisenhower, Nelson Rockefeller, and Jacob Javits, and also of Zenḱovskiĭ. The sound tape is an interview with Novit︠s︡kiĭ on Voice of America about his father-in-law, Georgiĭ Shavelśkiĭ. Some of the materials concern Novit︠s︡kiĭ's brother, Evgeniĭ, and wife, Marii︠a︡.

Correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, subject files, and printed materials of Evgenii Aleksandrovich Vechorin, chiefly concerning alumni of the St. Petersburg Polytechnical Institute. The catalogued correspondence includes letters from Nikolai Andreev, Petr Savitskii, Igor ́Sikorskii, Gleb Struve, and Alfred Swann, and other prominent figures. Much of the arranged correspondence is from fellow graduates of the Institute, and concerns alumni affairs. Most of the manuscripts are likewise by fellow graduates; many are memoirs, such as those by Vechorin himself, while others concern technical subjects. Among the subject files are biographical sketches of Institute graduates and files on such individuals as Petr Savitskii, Igor ́Sikorskii, and Alfred Swann. There are several photographs taken at the Institute ca. 1900 as well as photographs of Vechorin and his colleagues after emigration. The printed materials include clippings and excerpts, miscellaneous journals, and books by Vechorin and S. P. Timoshenko.

Correspondence in the collection includes 1 item from Ivan Bunin, 2 from Vladimir Davydov, and many from G. A. Alekseev. Mendeleev's extensive memoirs, "Svet i teni v moei zhizni," discuss his childhood and youth, government service, World War I, the 1917 Revolution and the Civil War, and life in the emigration up to 1933. Subject files in this collection concern the Prague Russian Archive, the Union of the Russian Nobility, the Russian Imperial family in the emigration, and other topics. Printed materials include an almost complete set of the weekly "Parizhskii Vestnik" (1942-1944).
